WOOFFERTON rounded off their home fixtures in Division One of the Herefordshire League with a disappointing 4-3 defeat at the hands of a youthful Ewyas Harold Reserves side.
But it looked like being a victory for the Blues who led 3-2 until a second-half sending-off turned the game in their visitors’ favour.
Marian Jusko put Woofferton ahead, dinking the ball over the head of the Harold keeper following some good interplay with strike partner Luke Pugh resulting in a one-two to put the goalscorer clear.
Two goals from Cameron McNally before half-time gave the visitors the upper hand at the break only for Woofferton to haul themselves level early in the second half when Jack Pound was fouled outside the box and Dickie Everall stepped up to send his 20-yard left-footed free-kick over the head of the keeper.
Pugh put the home side in front with 20 minutes remaining, sliding in at the far post from a low Pound cross as the Blues looked to finish on a high in front of their home fans.
But the game changed just five minutes later when Pugh was sent off for a second yellow card.
Woofferton now had their backs to the wall as the visitors began to dominate in midfield and they made their extra man count by scoring two goals in the final ten minutes through Declan Clark and McNally who completed his hat-trick.
The Blues make the trip to league leaders Holme Lacy next Tuesday, May 3, and club spokesman Dave Thomas said that would be another tough test.
''We have a depleted squad at the minute,” he said. “We have four key players out through injury and some players are in positions they don't normally play in, so it's hard at the moment.
“We have just got to keep on battling for the remaining games and finish as high as we can, that's all we can do.”
Woofferton’s final three league games are all on the road with trips to Ewyas Harold Reserves and Hinton Reserves to follow on from Holme Lacy.
In contrast, league neighbours Tenbury Town round-off their league campaign with two home games with Wellington Colts on May 7 and Ewyas Harold Reserves three days later.
Tenbury United’s final league game in the Premier Division is at Hinton on May 11 but they are also involved in the Senior Cup final on May 7 when they take on Pegasus Reserves at Bromyard’s Delahay Meadow ground.
