KATH Hughes, the president of Norbury and District WI welcomed members to the March meeting but had some sad news as they had recently lost a member, Mary McGoldrick.
Members sat in silence to remember a lovely lady who was always smiling and helpful.
Business resumed with congratulations to the three darts teams who have got to the final at Greenfields, Shrewsbury on March 22. The trip to the Well Dressing Day at Tissington, Derbyshire on May 12 was confirmed and members were reminded that there were places for family and friends at a cost of £10. The WI walking group will meet again on the first Tuesday of each month, starting on April 2 with a two hour round walk from Norbury followed by home made soup.
The speaker for the evening was Lyn Evans who told how she became a torn paper artist.
A local woman, Lyn gets inspiration from the surrounding countryside picking out amazing landscapes using thousands of pieces of torn paper.
Using only the paper and glue she creates vibrant pictures of the locality and beyond. Members had lots of questions and we all enjoyed seeing her work up close.
She was thanked by Christine Mansell for a most interesting talk.
Lyn judged the competition for a home made papier mache object and chose Linda Rice as the winner. Second place went to Jane Pugh and third Jules Spille.
The evening was rounded off with supper provided by Alice O'Leary, Krystyna Lawson and Jules Spille.
New members and visitors are always welcome to the friendly WI with the first visit free of charge. The meeting on April 12 welcomes Mary Roswell who will be talking about her 'Greek Odyssey'.
