THE repair of Ludlow Town Walls has been identified as a priority for the next financial year.
It is almost a decade since a section of the walls behind St Laurence Church collapsed resulting in a short term evacuation of homes in Upper Linney.
Following the collapse there was an extended debate to ascertain whether it was the Town Council, St Laurence Church or Shropshire Council that took the lead in instigating repairs.
Eventually, the town council took the lead and various surveys have taken place to determine the condition of the wall and what needs to be done.
Because of the historic importance of the wall that is listed, English Heritage will need to be involved and there will be requirements to use specialist materials like lime mortar.
The cost of repairs has still to be determined but is likely to the high and beyond the capacity of the town council, church or Shropshire Council.
