PEOPLE who use the roads in Ludlow and south Shropshire need to be aware of changes to the Highway Code that come into force on Saturday.
Shropshire’s road users are being advised about upcoming changes to the Highway Code.
On Saturday, eight new rules are being introduced, along with 49 updates to existing rules, to better protect more vulnerable road users.
The biggest change is a new hierarchy of road users that gives top priority to pedestrians and cyclists.
Horse riders come next in the pecking order and only then come motorised vehicles with motor cycles top of the pecking order, cars and taxis come next followed by vans and minibuses with large passenger and heavy goods vehicles at the bottom of the pile.
At a junction drivers should give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross a road into which or from which drivers are turning.
Drivers must also give way to pedestrians on or waiting to cross a zebra crossing, and to pedestrians and cyclists on or waiting to cross a parallel crossing.
Horse riders should also give way to pedestrians on a zebra crossing, and to pedestrians and cyclists on a parallel crossing.
