EVENTS in Ludlow and other market towns in south Shropshire that involve the closure of roads could face a charge in future.
Shropshire Council is considering imposing a charge when it has to close roads.
In Ludlow this is the case with a number of events throughout the year including the May Fair and the summer run. It also includes the Remembrance Day parade in November.
Both Andy Boddington, Shropshire councillor for Ludlow North and Vivienne Parry, a town councillor and Shropshire councillor for Ludlow South are unhappy at the proposal.
The proposed charges for Temporary Traffic Regulation Order range from £40 to £1,480. A charge of £40 will be for non-commercial events with less than 100 people, including Remembrance parades.
