TOWNS like Ludlow were not built for the internal combustion engine, never mind the modern heavy articulated lorries on the roads.
There have been a number of instances of heavy vehicles causing damage to historic buildings in the town including the Buttercross as well as to bridges.
It is an issue that concerns the environmental Ludlow 21 group.
Concerns have also been raised about heavy lorries bringing equipment to the concerts planned at the Castle in July.
One issue is that satellite navigation systems do not take account of the suitability of roads for heavy vehicles and often direct drivers, that do not know the town, along narrow streets that are totally unsuitable with the risk of damage to buildings.
