MORE than 103,000 wheelie bins for recycling cans, glass and plastic have been delivered to homes across the Shropshire Council area in less than a year.
The purple-lidded bins are available on request, with orders opening in January 2022 and deliveries beginning in May 2022.
As of March 17, 103,179 bins had been delivered.
The bins have been manufactured by Telford-based Craemer Ltd.
Having won the contract to manufacture the bins Craemer pledged to donate £6,000 to local good causes through its social value fund.
Money from the fund has been given to Llanymynech Village Hall, Lovelyland, Clun Climate and Environment Group, Bylet Bowling Club, Street Allotment Project, Festival Drayton Centre, Shropshire Cycle Hub, Clee St Margaret Village Hall and OsNosh CIC.
People who requested a new bin can continue to use their recycling boxes as well as their bin, re-use their boxes, perhaps as planters or for storage, take them to a recycling centre to be recycled.
The new bins will reduce the amount of waste lost to the recycling process after being blown out of the boxes on windy days.
They also make the storage of recycling more convenient for residents, and reduce the amount of bending and lifting for residents and waste and recycling crews.
To order a bin call Shropshire Council on 0345 678 9007.
