A WOMAN has been handed a suspended prison sentence after causing serious injury while behind the wheel.
Louise Lewis appeared before magistrates in Worcester in March accused of one count of causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving.
The court heard from Crown Prosecution Service prosecutor Eleanor Peart that the 21-year-old had caused serious injury to a woman on October 29 last year while driving a Ford Fiesta carelessly on the B4204 at Broadheath in Worcestershire.
Lewis entered a guilty plea to the charge.

Magistrates said they had taken the guilty plea into account when deciding on the penalty, but that the offence was so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified due to the seriousness of the injuries caused to the victim.
Lewis, of Wheeler Orchard in Tenbury Wells, was handed a 17-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and a 12-month disqualification from driving.
She was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £185 and a £154 victim surcharge, which is used to help fund services supporting victims of crime.
