AN ABUSIVE thief who stole hundreds of pounds worth of goods from a Church Stretton shop has been handed a curfew by a court.

Daniel Wood admitted six charges of theft from a shop, one of using threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm, or distress, and one of common assault when he appeared before magistrates in Kidderminster.

The court heard from prosecutor Aleya Adams that Wood had stolen toiletries from Boots in Leominster on October 22, alcohol worth £164 from Co-op in Kington on January 2, and three pairs of socks worth £24 from The Factory Shop in Leominster on January 23.

He had also stolen 14 steaks worth £90 from Co-op in Leominster on February 1, t-shirts from The Factory Shop, Leominster, on February 8, a trolley full of goods worth £441.89 from Co-op in Church Stretton on March 5, and alcohol and razors from the same shop on March 15.

The 43-year-old had also assaulted a woman and used threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause a man harassment, alarm, or distress on October 22.

Wood, of Ridgemoor Road in Leominster, was handed a 12-month community order with a three-month electronically monitored curfew and a six-month drug rehabilitation treatment requirement.

He was also ordered to pay compensation of £200 to Co-op, £30 to Boots, and £44 to The Factory Shop.
