CHILDREN at a Ludlow nursery have helped cultivate various fruits and vegetables this year in an effort to get young people closer to nature.
An abandoned car park has been converted by the team at Busy Bodies Child Care Centre into an outdoor area, hosting a number of raised beds which have been constructed using donations from local businesses.
The nursery’s director, James Boddey, said that the outdoor area provides balance for children who are increasingly surrounded by technology. Tomatoes, potatoes, strawberries and more have all been grown in the nursery, providing opportunities for youngsters to learn about nature as well as instilling the value of patience and respect for the natural world.
The outdoor area also allows for a more child-lead approach.
"We recognise that some children prefer to be outside exploring whist others prefer quieter games inside," said a spokesperson.
"With the free flow system children can make the choice where they want to play and what they want to play with."
Busy Bodies Child Care Centre received an overal ‘good’ rating by Ofsted in 2019, and ‘outstanding’ in personal development and behaviour and attitudes.
