A LOCAL school has been used in a training exercise for firefighters.
On the evening of Monday, September 27, Tenbury High Ormiston Academy was used as part of a joint fire service exercise between Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, attended by a crew from Ludlow Fire Station.
The school was artificially filled with smoke and the crews entered the building in full kit, including breathing apparatuses, to attend to a fictional incident.
A spokesperson said: “Our crew were alerted by fire control to an automatic fire alarm operating at the academy, however on arrival smoke could be seen coming from the building and four people were unaccounted for.
“Our crews quickly set up BA procedures to start a search of the smoke-filled building. Crews from Ludlow and Tenbury entered and successfully rescued all casualties.
“This was a fantastic opportunity to use a local premises and we are very appreciative to the academy for allowing us to train there.”
