AN AUTHOR has written a book about the history of Ludlow and will be holding a signing at a local bookshop this week.
Lost Ludlow was written by Ralph Beardmore, and contains rare and early photographs from the town and insights into local history.
He will be signing copies at the Castle Bookshop on Friday, October 13.
Mr Beardmore told the Ludlow Advertiser: "Lost Ludlow began to form three years ago. It opens with a brief history of photography. The finished design is a delight. It is a book of which I am immensely proud."
The book is 176 pages long and contains unique, never-before-seen images of the town and its surrounding areas.
It came out on October 5 and can be bought from the Castle Bookshop, where the signing will take place, or from major literary retailers like Waterstones.
The publisher Logaston's description of the book reads: "The images are drawn from an extensive collection of old plates, negatives and prints, many previously unpublished, and ephemera of the town and local area. The people, places, stories and histories in the photographs are described in detail.
"St Laurence's Church and the castle look different and other buildings including the vestiges of the Palmers Guild have gone altogether. Also here is a mill fire, intimate gatherings and parades, and visiting royalty."
Mr Beardmore has previously written a book about Ludford House in Ludlow, which came out in 2020 telling the story of the house and its occupants.
