A TENBURY pub has made it into the Good Beer Guide for 2024.
The Market Tavern in Market Square is the only pub in the town to feature in the 51st edition of CAMRA’s best-selling beer guide, which surveys 4,500 of the finest watering holes across the UK.
The pub boasts twelve hand pulls including six guest ales and three guest ciders as well as fresh, traditional bar food such as scotch eggs, cobs and pork pies.
Greg Williams, who is the licensee alongside Jayne Davies, said: “We’re chuffed to bits.”
“I think it’s all down to our wonderful selection of real ales.”
“The good beer guide is like a bible.”
“If you like real ale, that’s what you look for.”
He said that success is growing steadily and that he was very proud of what the team at the pub had achieved.
The Black Country Ales chain purchased the Grade II listed pub from its owner of 22 years, refurbishing and reopening it in 2022.
Rosie and Phil Ingleston initially helmed the reopened Market Tavern before Mr Williams and Ms Davies took charge earlier this year.
The pair were only supposed to manage the pub temporarily, for a period of six to eight weeks, but within a few days of starting up they became attached to the Tenbury community and asked to stay on permanently.
“Tenbury is so welcoming, it’s a lovely town,” Mr Williams said.
“Every pub in Tenbury has its little niche, there’s a wonderful atmosphere.”
Mr Williams is an experienced publican and no stranger to the Good Beer Guide, with a previous pub he ran for 14 years appearing on the list 3 times.
CAMRA Chairman Nik Antona said: “The last few years have been an incredibly difficult time for the industry, and we need more support than ever before to keep our nation’s pubs and breweries open and thriving.
“I’d encourage everyone to use this year’s Guide to visit the very best pubs and breweries across the UK and support them for generations to come.”
