A VAN driver was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a crash on the A488 at Bishops Castle.

Emergency services were called to the crash between two vans just before 9am on Sunday, November 5, with West Mercia Police closing the road as they dealt with the incident.

The casualties were taken into the care of the West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) and police confirmed via social media that the A488 was closed between Bishops Castle and Lydham. Drivers were urged to find an alternative route.

A spokesperson for the WMAS said: "An ambulance, paramedic and the air ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene where crews discovered two vans had been involved in a collision. A man in the first vehicle was removed from the van by medics before being treated for serious injuries by ambulance staff. He was airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital. A man and woman from the second van were treated for minor injuries and were discharged."

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said: "At 8.55am on Sunday, November 5, SFRS fire control received a call that two vans were in a collision. An operations officer and three fire appliances including the rescue tender were in attendance. Also at the scene of the incident were the air ambulance, the land ambulance service and the police. The stop message was received on Sunday, November 5, at 9.37am."
