A MAJOR refurbishment project is due to start at Tenbury CE Primary Academy.
Currently, both the reception class and nursery are taught in mobile classrooms, which have been on the site for many years.
However, from Monday, January 8, part of the school will be refurbished to create a large, new reception classroom and practical area, with its own self-contained toilet area and cloakrooms.
A new playground for the reception class ill then be created, making it much easier for the children to move between the inside and outside play areas, and choosing their own activities.
The second stage of the project is for a new permanent nursery building to be constructed onsite. This will include an office, kitchen area, toilets, nappy changing and cloakrooms, and a large outdoor play area.
A new secure access to the nursery will also be created, meaning that parents no longer have to come through the main school gate. The two current ageing mobile classrooms will be demolished due to them being well past their shelf-life.
The first stage of the project is due to be completed by the end of the spring term, and the second stage by the end of the summer.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for families in Tenbury Wells as it will provide a high-quality Early Years environment for our youngest children and the best possible start to school," said Kerri Phelps, headteacher at Tenbury CE Primary School.
The nursery currently takes pupils from the age of two onwards and our nursery leader, Mrs Price, works closely with our reception class teacher, Mrs Baker, to ensure the transition into school goes smoothly.
"We currently have spaces for children in both nursery and also in reception for September 2024, so we are looking forward to being able to accommodate lots of new families.
"If anyone is interested in a nursery or school place, please contact the school office as soon as possible. This project will totally transform part of our school and we are so pleased that we have been able to secure the funding for this from our Multi-Academy Trust - the DHMAT - who are fully supportive of everything we are trying to achieve and ensure we deliver the very best educational experience for our pupils."
