AN APPEAL has been launched to raise a quarter of a million pounds for a Shropshire swimming pool.
The money is to go towards refurbishment of the 50-year-old SpArc in Bishop's Castle, with plans to replace the pool's lining, which trustee Jean Shirley said was unlikely to last the year, with an insulated steel tank to improve sustainability.
There are also plans to improve access for disabled and elderly people.
So far, £70,000 has been raised of the £250,000 goal.
“We really hope people will support us and we are encouraging them to take part in a number of fun ways, from swimming challenges, collections, fundraisers and simply by making a donation," said Ms Shirley.
Recently, the 'Everyone swims 50' raised £3,300, while the Christmas prize bingo raised a total of £1,950.
Financial donations can be made as a one-off, while monthly standing order donations of £8 will be entered into the monthly prize draw.
Collection tins will be placed around the town, and raffle and bingo prize donations are also welcome.
