A PUB near Ludlow has been shortlisted for a coveted award.
The Tally Ho Inn at Bouldon in Corvedale has been shortlisted for a Countryside Alliance Award in the Midlands Pub category.
The awards are the Countryside Alliance’s annual celebration of British food and farming, enterprise and heritage through small hard-working businesses. Now in their sixteenth year, they are driven by public nomination and received over seventeen thousand nominations this year.
The south Shropshire pub, some 15 minutes from Ludlow, was re-opened to great local acclaim, in a re-launch masterminded by chef Mark Harris and Sarah Cowley who manage the award-winning Pheasant at Neenton, back in July 2023.
Mr Harris and Ms Cowley said they have looked to build a thriving venue that combines all the virtues and atmosphere of a great local with food that people will drive to time and again to enjoy.
Mr Harris, recently a national finalist for Chef of the Year in the Great British Pub Awards said: “We have such great local suppliers of ingredients here in Shropshire which we’ll continue to draw on alongside sustainably-sourced, fresh fish and seafood. We are thrilled to be up for this award and are so pleased to be helping cast a spotlight on the region for serving excellent, locally produced, sustainable food and being a rural country Inn for locals and guests from further a field as well."
Countryside Alliance awards director Sarah Lee said they had been overwhelmed by nominations this year “The awards honour the people involved in these businesses and not just their produce or services," she said.
"They exist to sing the praises of those who work hard to keep our communities and rural economy ticking, but don’t seek the spotlight. Our local produce is second to none and there are many community heroes and businesses worthy of national recognition.”
Ms Cowley said it had been "fantastic" to reopen a treasured village local and praised her "superb staff team" for their friendly and obliging service.
"We couldn’t be prouder," she said.
Winners will be chosen via a public vote in February and announced in the spring. The winners of each region will be up against fellow winners from around the UK and the national champion will be announced at the House of Lords in the national champions reception in June.
