LITTER picks have been taking place across Tenbury and surrounding areas, with even the local MP getting involved.
West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin recently joined villagers in Clifton upon Teme picking litter dumped along a stretch of busy road.
The MP joined locals who regularly help to clean up their community and have formed a local group with dozens of helpers.
Ms Baldwin joined the litter pickers to promote the annual Keep Britain Tidy campaign which encourages local people, voluntary groups and businesses to pick up at least one bag of litter during the fortnight-long initiative which runs between March 15 and 31.
The group picked up empty bottles of spirits, fast food wrappers, disposable coffee cups and even a car exhaust in their hour-long clearing of the road between Clifton and Upper Sapey.
“It was great to see so many big-hearted villagers from the beautiful village of Clifton upon Teme come out on a rainy Friday to help pick litter," Ms Baldwin said.
Elsewhere in the area, locals young and old also came together in Eastham, where they collected several bags of litter from the roadsides in the area on March 16.
“The Great British Spring Clean is a national initiative to encourage more people to clean up their own local environment and there are many local groups who brave the elements to keep their location clean," said Ms Baldwin.
“If you want to start your own, both Malvern Hills District Council and Wychavon District Council can help you Adopt A Road and provide equipment.
“Litter is something which can be a scourge on our rural and urban areas and I am heartened that there are so many volunteers already out there helping to keep our streets clean. Report fly-tipping too where fines have been increased for these environmental crooks.
“It's quite satisfying to collect a bag of litter and anyone can get involved from quite a young age.”
