Buoyed by their recent success with Dad’s Army live at Tenbury’s Regal theatre, the Regal Community Theatre group are back on stage next week (from Wednesday June 19) with a zany new whodunnit, Inspector Drake’s Last Case.

Inspector Drake of Scotland Yard is urgently called to investigate the shocking murder of Mrs Gagarin in her remote country house. But will he prove to be a quiet genius or hopelessly hapless? Is his assistant Sergeant Plod of any assistance at all?

Which of the assorted suspects - a resentful son, an ambitious business partner, scheming staff, an enigmatic house guest - has a motive strong enough to kill? And can the inspector crack the case without cracking up?

Filled with misdirection, visual gags and ‘Aha!’ moments, David Tristram’s highly original yarn is sure to delight audiences both young and old.

It is directed by Colin Love, who previously directed the group’s Ladies Down Under and who now also takes the role of Mrs Gagarin’s ageing butler who may not be as doddery as he seems.

“We’ve had a lot of fun putting this one together and we’re sure audiences will love it too,” he said.

The show takes place in the intimate setting of the Regal Studio Theatre on the evenings of Wednesday June 19 to Saturday June 22 at 7.15 pm.

Tickets priced £12 are available from the theatre website, regaltenbury.co.uk, or in person from the box office.
