THREE removal men have completed their incredible bid to carry a fridge from Ludlow to Snowdon, but donations are still rolling in.
Richard Carpenter, Rowan Ingram, and Cameron Nicholas began their epic quest on June 2, with around 100 miles of gruelling paths and back-breaking fridge transportation ahead of them to reach the summit of Snowdon.
As of June 14, the team had raised a whopping £3,515, 75 per cent more than their original target of £2,000, in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust, the only UK charity that caters for the specialist care of 13- to 24-year-olds with cancer.
Starting from Wicked Van Hire in Ludlow, the trio first arrived at Bishops Castle, where “a nice man called Bill insisted on buying us all a pint” after a very tiring day one.
Rowan’s hay fever, Cameron’s ankle struggles and stiff joints all round were among the struggles of day two, not to mention the thick undergrowth, bridges narrower than the fridge itself and inquisitive bullocks in the mood for chasing…
The support team arrived and “nearly blew us up with a gas stove” on day four. Despite this crisis being averted, the team arrived at Bala Lake “walking like zombies” nonetheless!
Day five saw brief medical attention for Rowan, and after day six’s slate trail walk without phone signal, the team carried on until 7pm “to make the final day easier.”
And then came the inevitable arrival of day seven: “the day we all feared.” Nevertheless, the heroic team actually found their scaling of Snowdon one of the easiest parts, having had “six days of training.”
“We overtook quite a few other walkers, climbing to the peak in three hours”; a highly commendable achievement without the involvement of a fridge.
The team said they were “blown away" by the generosity and support of others.
