A SHROPSHIRE fare dodger has been ordered to pay hundreds after failing to buy a ticket.
Kieron Anthony Davies entered a guilty plea to one count of boarding a train in a non-compulsory ticket area without a valid ticket, contrary to railway bye-laws, to magistrates in Cardiff in July.
The court heard, in the case brought by Transi Transport Investigations, that the 23-year-old, who was not present in the court on the day, had boarded a train for the purpose of travelling at Shropshire's Craven Arms on February 14.
But he was not carrying a valid ticket entitling him to travel on that train, the court was told.
Davies, of Newington Way, Craven Arms, was fined £164 and ordered to pay compensation of £5.20 for the offence, with magistrates saying they had taken his guilty plea into account when imposing the penalty.
He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £100 and a £65 victim surcharge, which is used to help fund services supporting victims of crime.
