A longstanding clothes shop in Tenbury’s Market Street has closed its doors, leaving many loyal customers sad to see it go.
Marilyn Womenswear announced they would be closing on July 13 on their Facebook page after an astonishing 37 years of trading, with Marilyn thanking “all of our lovely customers for supporting us over the years.”
“We have happy memories and friendships made that have lasted during this time. You know who you are and, you are treasured,” said the shop owner.
The shop prided itself on offering "something different for the customer,” but Marilyn graciously implored her customers to “welcome all the new businesses to our town,” after her own closure.
Marilyn also fondly remembered Jenny Bradley in her message: Ms Bradley “graced the shop for 28 years. A very dear friend and a lovely lady.”
Since posting her closure announcement, Marilyn’s Facebook been flooded with kind messages from shoppers and friends who wanted to throw their support behind the shop owner and express their love for the shop. Marie Cosgrove praised Marilyn’s, calling it her “favourite dress shop,” as Valerie Hayllor remarked on the shops 37-year history, congratulating Marilyn for “providing a wonderful store for so long.”
“I have incredibly fond memories of your shop and spent very many happy hours trying on and buying lovely clothes and enjoying your friendship. I'll never forget you,” Ms Hayllor said, wishing Marilyn “all the very best for your well-deserved retirement.”
Sarah Bell took to the comments to share cherished memories of her “Nanny Rene, who lived opposite in Market House, always commenting on the beautiful window displays and dresses,” while Alison Short said she was “so sad” to see the shop close, but was pleased to hear Marilyn will “finally be able to put [her] feet up”
Marilyn’s website says their aim has “always been to give our customers a first-class service, and we will continue to do so as long as we are able. Hopefully always with a smile."
