A TENBURY business is celebrating after being handed a five-star food hygiene rating by inspectors.
Mike's takeaway sandwich bar in Teme Street said: "It is a fantastic achievement for our hard work in keeping correct records, cleaning, food storage, preparation, hygiene and staff training to name just a few of the strict hygiene regulations that have to be adhere to.
"Anyone who works in the industry will know the high standards that are required to be constantly maintained. We were so pleased to be again awarded the top five-star rating.
"Since my opening just over four years ago that was dreamt up and planned during the Covid lockdown period, I have now extended my operation to weddings, parties, concerts and events and my pork baps are now famous in the town."
Mike's shop was assessed by inspectors based on hygienic handling of food, cleanliness and condition of facilities, and management of food safety, all of which were found to meet high standards.
Mr Slade says he also received a letter from the Food Standards Agency congratulating him on his consistent good ratings.
The shop is very popular in the town with a five-star review on Trip Advisor saying: "Lovely pork baps and separate crackling. Very pleasant staff. Pork sourced from nearby butchers which is also first class. First visit, won't be the last."
It has a further 15 reviews on Google, averaging at 4.7 stars.
One reviewer wrote: "Enjoyed an excellent hot roast pork bap here! Delicious and not to be missed. Super friendly owner even gave us the scraps for our dog!"
Another added: "Perfect crackling, enough crack so that it doesn't get stuck in your molars, but chewy enough that it doesn't chip them. The pork was moist and plentiful. The fluffy stuffing and the thick gravy paired together beautifully. Would recommend, even if it's out of your way."
As well as the "famous" baps, customers also heaped praise on other menu items, with one saying: "I would recommend Mike's. This sandwich bar is a must. Been going for quite a while now and can honestly say the sausage and bacon roll is without doubt the best sandwich I have tasted. Pork, stuffing, crackling and gravy also on the menu. Just amazing."
