A Shropshire housebuilder has said there is a need for more homes in the county, as residents want to own their own homes.

Cornovii Homes Ltd, which specialises in “quality, sustainable, and environmentally friendly homes for Shropshire” and are committed to “making Shropshire a great place to live” recently attended the Shrewsbury Food Festival, with a number of locals visiting the stand.

Debbie Hancox, sales and aftercare manager for Cornovii Homes said that the key takeaway from the event was that most residents still aspired owning their own home outright. But there was a general acceptance that this had become “increasingly difficult” and other options, such as shared ownership, were being considered.

Miss Hancox added that the company had already successfully completed work on two former brownfield sites, and are currently working on a new project on the former Oakland Primary school site.

The new development, The Oaklands, will include two one-bedroom bungalows, seven semi-detached two-bedroom homes, 12 semi-detached three-bedroom houses, and two four-bedroom properties, one of these will be a detached home.

Dean Carroll, Shropshire Council Cabinet member for housing and assets said that Cornovii Homes is “leading the way” in providing “innovative, sustainable, affordable homes for local people.”

The company has said it has a commitment to make good use of brownfield sites and creating energy-efficient homes for the local community.

The homes on the new development, which can be accessed from Glebe Road, will benefit from solar panels, electric vehicle charging points, and air-source heat pumps.
