A WARNING has been issued to treasure hunters in Shropshire.
Police constable Jonathan Lightfoot said the county has recently had some really positive press over significant archaeological discoveries.
But, amazing as PC Lightfoot said these are, there is a "small minority of the public who will look to target these areas and metal detect illegally".
Prohibited areas include Scheduled Monuments.
PC Lightfoot said he has put up signs in the areas where officers are seeing the most activity reported.
"If you see these signs please keep an extra eye on them to protect our history," he said.
"I must stress that the majority of metal detectorists are law-abiding people who detect within the law and keep to the detectorists' code of conduct."
