Empty shops in Ludlow will be receiving a summer makeover with teams of volunteers joining forces to give the town a transformation and dress it in its “Sunday best”.
Business owners, residents and other volunteers in the town are teaming up to ensure all empty local shops are looking their best for the upcoming Ludlow Food Festival, which will be celebrating its 30th anniversary between September 13 and 15.
The “Super Sunday” team will also be revitalizing some of the towns empty shop windows with original artwork, to give locals and visitors a “bright and engaging face” to view.
The Super Sunday initiative was created by the Town Regeneration Group, which was established after the first meeting of the Ludlow Residents Group, held in January this year.
The group's main focus is to look at ways to inspire new businesses in Ludlow, and to support the town’s existing businesses by using the experiences and knowledge of towns across the country.
Volunteers for Super Sunday will meet up for an early coffee at Bill’s Kitchen at 9am on September 1, where they will collect cleaning equipment kindly donated by Ludlow’s independent hardware and homeware store, Homecare.
The Super Sunday crew will then begin to work their way around town and down Corve Street, finishing at Ludlow Brewery for 2.30pm where lunch, provided by independent sandwich bar, Vaughans, will await them.
Super Sunday is supported by the Ludlow Chamber of Commerce and Stuart Anderson, Ludlow’s MP.
The recently-elected MP said: “The Ludlow Regeneration Focus Group are doing a fantastic thing by organising a clean-up initiative.
“I fully support this action and would encourage anyone who can to get involved and give a hand ahead of the food festival."
Ian Evans from the chamber added: “This is a great community initiative, that brilliantly demonstrates how much we all love Ludlow.
“Ludlow’s current independent business community can share the love, and spread some TLC beyond our own businesses and give some of the premises currently awaiting tenants some Ludlow love and one hopes, attract some more independent businesses to our town.”
