AN UPDATE has been issued for plans to bring a banking hub to Tenbury.
West-Worcestershire MP, Dame Harriett Baldwin is continuing her support for a banking hub in Tenbury following the news that the plans will be reviewed again to ensure that locals have access to essential banking services.
The MP has continued her push for the town to be recognised as in need of more banking infrastructure, recently saying she felt a banking hub was the “optimal long-term decision” for the town.
Dame Harriet recently wrote to the chief executive of LINK, asking for a review of their decision that refused a permanent banking hub in the town.
The company LINK oversees the creation of banking hubs and making sure those across the country have proper access to both cash and banking services.
The proposal of a banking hub was brought forward after it was announced that Tenbury will lose its final bank, TSB on Teme Street next May.
LINK, in response to the west-Worcestershire MP has said it will reopen and review the decision in unison with the Post Office, which is currently run out of the Spar.
Dame Harriett said: ““I have written to LINK a couple of times in recent months to press for a new review to give the town the best possible chance of getting a permanent banking hub.
“Having spoken to LINK, TSB and the Post Office, it is clear that they should get around a table and work out what is best for the town.
“Next May, Tenbury’s banking will be limited to a once-a-week TSB pop-up hub and any banking services that can be carried out at the Post Office – which wants to be ready for the extra demand that will come their way.
“A town the size of Tenbury which is an economic centre for the larger surrounding area really needs decent banking services and this is a chance for LINK to look again at the bigger picture and work out what is best for businesses and local residents.”
Dame Harriet recently said she pledged “to work with all relevant parties to try and help people and local businesses to access the right banking support.”
