A DRIVER who was caught drink-driving on the A49 in Shropshire has been banned from the roads.
David Simpson, aged 61, was caught driving a Vauxhall Meriva on the A49 in Shrewsbury on April 8 this year while over the alcohol limit.
A test found he had 85 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, said prosecutor Kathleen Price for the West Midlands Crown Prosecution Service. This exceeded the limit, which is 35 mg.
Simpson, of Roman Fold, Wistanstow, pleaded guilty to driving while above the legal alcohol limit when he appeared before magistrates in Telford in May.
As well as banning him from driving for 17 months, magistrates fined him £200. They also ordered him to pay £85 in prosecution costs and an £80 victim surcharge.
Simpson has been given the option to complete a drink-drive awareness course which would reduce the ban by 17 weeks.
His guilty plea was taken into account by magistrates.
