FLOODING has hit Ludlow and the surrounding areas heavily over the past week, with many areas being submerged as the treacherous weather took hold.
Flood warnings were placed for the river Teme at Leintwardine and Walford and at Tenbury Wells and Burford last week, remaining in force for some time as roads began to fill with water.
Flood alerts were also in force for the Ledwyche Brook and River Rea, the Lower Teme, the river Lugg north of Leominster, and the Upper Teme, with locals being told to avoid the areas due to the rising levels.
Heavy flooding brought travel chaos across Shropshire, Herefordshire, and Worcestershire over recent days, with floods hitting major roads including the A49, leaving drivers having to make uncertain journeys and some left to slowly plough through the flood water.
Behind Ludlow castle, nearby fields were waterlogged with days of heavy flood water, and left a sports field and children's play area submerged in murky flood water.
A flood alert was removed for the area on Monday, October 21, with the Environment Agency saying that river levels had now fallen below the flood risk threshold, and there was no longer a large risk of flooding.
However, the agency has still warned that debris from the past week's onslaught of water, and has asked pedestrians to avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.
