A SHROPSHIRE teenager who boarded a train without a valid ticket is facing a hefty fine.
Charlie Cartwright, of Station Crescent, Craven Arms, was charged with boarding a train without a valid ticket, which was proved via single justice procedure on October 9.
The 18-year-old committed the offence in June when he got on a train in Craven Arms without a valid ticket entitling him to travel.
He has been fined £220 by Cardiff magistrates, and must pay £5.40 in compensation to Transport for Wales for the cost of the unpaid-for ticket.
He also has to pay a victim surcharge of £88 to the government and court costs of £100 to the prosecution.
Boarding a train without a valid ticket is an offence under railway byelaws made under section 219 of the Transport Act 2000 by the Strategic Railway Authority and confirmed under schedule 20 of the Transport Act 2000, as amended by section 26 of the Railways Act 2005.
