A Tenbury Wells woman has been awarded for her years of hard work and dedication to making the town "clean and green".

Carol Ludwig, who set up the group Keep Tenbury Clean and Green, has been honoured with a BBC Make a Difference Award, for the Herefordshire and Worcestershire category.

Ms Ludwig, who has been litter-picking in the town for the past ten years, started the community Facebook group in 2022, having been inspired by Malvern District Council's "Adopt a Street" initiative.

The council initiative provides residents with litter pickers, gloves, a yellow Hi-Viz and bin bags if they pledge to clean their area at least four times a year.

The community group now has over 350 members, who are dedicated to preserving the town's beautiful scenery for residents and visitors.

Since its creation, the group has even had a few children gain a Blue Peter Bage by litter picking and the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme.

Ms Ludwig was presented with the award at a ceremony at West Midlands Safari Park in September.

The Make a Difference Awards give communities the chance to say thank you to those who strive to make a real difference in people's lives.

Speaking of the momentous achievement, Ms Ludwig said: "I was completely overwhelmed when I had a call from the Make a Difference team that we had been nominated by the local community for this award and another call to say that we had become a finalist.

"The group worked extremely hard to keep our Town looking beautiful and I am very proud to be part of the amazing team of volunteers.  When our name was called out I just couldn’t believe it.

"I would like to thank the Malvern Hills district council adopt-a-street scheme and local businesses in the area for supplying us with equipment.  I’m sure the residents/businesses agree that our Town is pretty special.

"We have lots of new ideas for the future.  It would have made our day if we had an acknowledgement of this award from Tenbury Town Council.
