THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised in memory of a headmaster who died from an undiagnosed brain tumour.
A Bit of a Do was held at Lucton School, Lucton, near the Herefordshire and Shropshire border, on Saturday, November 2, in memory of the late headmaster David Bicker-Caarten who tragically died just over a year ago from an aggressive brain tumour which had gone undiagnosed.
The evening was masterminded by Mr Bicker-Caarten's wife Clare, ably assisted by Tracey Stone and Janie Jones, in order to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research Charity.
Mrs Bicker-Caarten and her children Paige, Mary and Guy will be running in the London Marathon 2025 for Brain Tumour Research, for which there is a Just Giving page.
Over 100 people enjoyed a wonderful evening which started with welcome drinks in the Memorial Hall accompanied by a student playing the harp and then moved to the dining room where some of Mr Bicker-Caarten's favourite foods were served by the wonderful kitchen staff, all of whom had given of their time freely.
Mrs Bicker-Caarten opened the evening welcoming everyone and giving warm thanks to all those who had donated so generously to the promise auction and spoke movingly of the work of the brain cancer charity and the alarming statistics and poor funding.
Between courses, more than 47 promises were amusingly and efficiently auctioned by Nick Tilt and Lyndsay Rogers.
The whole evening was a resounding success and over £15,000 was raised for the charity.
