A Remembrance Day service, attended by Deputy Lieutenant, Nicola Kershaw, was held at St Thomas' church in Halford, a church recently threatened with closure.
A group of volunteers, the Friends of St Thomas', came together in 2022 to try to keep their local church open.
In recent years, the fabric of the building, the foundations of which date from the 12th century, has suffered and significant repairs are now necessary, including updating of the electrics.
Following a difficult period, when the church faced the very real threat of closure, a revived enthusiasm for active worship and community engagement has taken place over the last two years. As a result, the church has been given the chance to remain open for worship, and to provide a community venue.
It is hoped that services and community events will generate sufficient income to meet the running costs of St Thomas’, but significant funds are needed to carry out necessary works and enable the group to apply for grants, which are critical to keep the church open.
