A LOCAL town crier will add an extra-special touch to Christmas shopping in Tenbury this festive season.

Mike Fray, Malvern’s town crier, will be making public announcements at events across the district in Tenbury Wells, Great Malvern, Barnards Green, Malvern Link, and Upton upon Severn in December.

Malvern Hills District Council said it is working with Mr Fray to spread cheer and encourage people to support local businesses during the festive period.

He will be visiting Tenbury's Mistletoe Festival from midday to 3pm on December 7 and Tenbury Football Club from 3pm to 4.30pm on December 12.

The popular annual event always sees plenty of visitors, with the traditional crowning of the Mistletoe Queen, stalls, music, Mistletoe Ceremony, workshops and more.

It will be followed by the long-running Father Christmas procession through the town.

The council is encouraging people to support their town centre traders and to take on the challenge of doing all their Christmas shopping locally.

Shoppers can plan their Christmas spending by visiting the ‘Visit the Malverns’ website for a list of shops across the district.

A spokesperson for the council said the Malvern Hills District is full of seasonal shopping opportunities and bursting with independent shops across the town centres.

There is lots on offer, including handmade arts, crafts, antiques, curios, homewares and furniture, clothes, accessories and haberdashery, garden centres, nurseries and florists, cards and jewellery, books and vinyl, food and drink, and of course, toys.

Councillor Julie Wood, portfolio holder for economic development and tourism at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We are so excited to see that the town crier will be making proclamations over the festive period.

"It is great opportunity to find that perfect Christmas gift and to explore our wonderful town centre shops”.

Mr Fray will also visit Upton Christmas Market on December 8 from 12pm to 3pm and Malvern Town Football Club on December 14 from 2.30pm to 4pm.
