A SHROPSHIRE fare dodger has been ordered to pay hundreds after failing to buy a ticket.
Joseph Wildman entered a guilty plea to one count of travelling on a railway without paying a fare, Transi Transport Investigations told Cardiff Magistrates’ Court in October.
The court heard that the 22-year-old had travelled on a railway without having paid his fare and with intent to avoid payment from Shropshire’s Craven Arms to Cardiff on May 31.
The ticket was worth £46.20.
Travelling on a railway without paying a fare is an offence under section five of the Regulation of Railways Act 1889.
Wildman, of Redpit, Westbury, Wiltshire, was ordered to pay a fine of £126, compensation of £46.29, court costs of £200 and a £50 victim surcharge, which is used to help fund services supporting crime victims.
This means he had a court bill totalling £422.20 which had to be paid in full by November 14.
