Ludlow Town 1 Boldmere 1
AFTER a number of single-goal defeats the Town finally got their first Travel Factory Midland Alliance point under their new management team, but ironically came off the field possibly more dejected than in their previous defeats.
When the time added on by the referee reached seven minutes with the home side still protecting a single goal lead without undue concern, three points looked a formality. Unfortun-ately he deemed there was still time for one last corner and when this was flicked on it was scrambled in off the post to sink their spirits.
The final moment should not cloud what was another fighting performance to match another good side and at worst finish on level terms. Joint manager, Kevin Welsby was upbeat about the performance and found it a pleasing experience to be holding on to the lead for a change.
He was very pleased with his defence that soaked up a lot of pressure in the closing stages without conceding any real chances, backed up by another good solid performance from keeper Martin Poole.
The first half was well contested with both sides working hard to get a control in midfield. Chances were hard to come by but Welsby went close with an early shot that clipped the outside of the post, and Martyn Davies was always a threat to the Boldmere defence.
The second half started in style for the home team and they took the lead within the first ten minutes. Welsby slung over a corner and Steve Hamner headed home.
