Worcester Ladies 2nd 3 Tenbury Ladies 2
TRAILING 3-0 with twenty minutes to go, Tenbury brought Rachel Croxton off the substitute's bench, and almost snatched a draw. Croxton who was missing through injury, made some inspirational snaking runs, and although she didn't score, her team found the back of the net three times, but were denied a point when the final effort was ruled out for an infringement.
The game was even throughout with play exciting as it moved from end-to-end. The first half saw just one goal to the home side as Michelle Petrie, playing her final game of the season due to injury, kept a tight control in her sweepers role. Sarah Nightingale and Gemma Toms were prominent in attack for Tenbury, but their best efforts failed to penetrate a solid defence in which the home keeper was outstanding.
The second half started in the same mould as the first, very even, but it was Worcester who tucked away their chances to open up what appeared to be an unassailable lead with three-quarters of the game already gone. Tenbury responded to Croxton's play and forced the home team to concede penalty corners. Petrie sent in a blistering shot to grab Tenbury's first goal and then Nightingale put the game in the balance with a second.
It was all Tenbury now and with a minute left they earned a penalty corner. Although the first effort was defended the home team was penalised and the set-piece had to be retaken. This time Tenbury were penalised when Nightingale netted during a melee and the game was over, the home team had sneaked home.
