I read with considerable interest your lead article in this week's Tenbury Advertiser regarding the traffic chaos caused in Tenbury Wells by the flagrant disregard for parking restrictions within the town.
I have lived in the area for three years and have become increasingly amazed at the total disdain by car drivers of parking regulations, causing traffic chaos as outlined in your article.
I have even seen drivers parking illegally when a quite legal parking spot was available across the road, but that would mean then walking a further 10 yards - heavens forbid!
The relevant authorities seem totally oblivious to the problem and reluctant to exercise any authority to alleviate the situation.
Indeed, Worcester County Council imposed parking fees in the cattle market area, thus probably exacerbating the problem.
Why pay a parking fee when one can park for nothing, albeit it illegally, just a few feet away?
I have a suggestion, which I consider is common sense therefore, on those grounds alone, will be totally ignored by the authorities. All parking in defined parking areas, including designated car parks within Tenbury Wells be free and parking restrictions rigorously enforced.
Any revenues from parking fines imposed will probably more than compensate for the lost car parking revenue as well as relieve Tenbury Wells of much of its traffic congestion.
