I HAVE every sympathy with Mrs Gill's complaint about mud on the roads (Advertiser, November 25), especially as it is against the law to deposit it.
My late father-in-law, a policeman, never allowed such a nuisance on his rural beat in Gloucestershire, insisting that farmers kept suitable sticks at their gates, and cleaned wheels before moving onto the highway. Can you imagine a policeman doing that today? During the last year I have often had to step over mud and stones on the turning leading to the new development off Lower Galdeford, right in front of our new police station.
If the police have ever noticed this, they don't seem to have done anything to prevent it, as it happens frequently.
