Paul Nicholls's letter (December 3) suggested the district council was responsible for the closure of Kwik Save.
He clearly has not been looking at the national news. Ever since Somerfield bought Kwik Save, it has been closing some Kwik Save branches and converting others into Somerfields.
In Ludlow, Somerfield has undergone an expensive facelift. That is why Somerfield closed KwikSave.
I am sure that everyone in town is sympathetic to those who lost their jobs because of a decision made remotely at their head office.
On a happier note, I am pleased to see the butcher from Kwik Save will be opening his own shop in Ludlow shortly. Mr Nicholls is also in a state of confusion. The Eco Park is not intended for retailers. The application for retailing on the edge of town at Foldgate Lane has twice been turned down by the council because the council wishes to protect retailing in the town centre as far as this is within its power.
In the end it is the people who will decide which shops stay open.
Only if you shop in them will their owners stay in business.
