Ludlow Ladies 1 Stafford Ladies 3
LUDLOW gave a good account of themselves before bowing out of the League Vase against a very useful Stafford side.
The match started at pace with both sides attacking in turn, and creating chances. Stafford scored the vital first goal from a short corner, with the visiting player neatly placing the ball between the legs of Claire Rogers in the Ludlow goal.
The home side kept their heads up, and were soon on level terms. Jenny Cullen produced a fine solo run and kept cool to slot home the equaliser. Stafford responded by increasing the tempo and regained the lead when their centre forward scored from one of a number of chances.
After a rallying call from their skipper Emily Wood, the home team came out full of aggression in the second half. They almost grabbed a second equaliser when Emily Davies forced the Stafford keeper to make a superb save from a penalty flick.
Stafford extended their lead shortly after. This proved to be a decisive blow, with Ludlow's best chance another Davies shot, this time into the bottom corner, ruled out by the umpire.
