West Hagley 1 Tenbury United 2
TENBURY are through to the semi-final of the Worcestershire FA Junior Cup for the second year running.
In-spite of not showing their best form during the game, they did just about enough to book their place with a narrow win at Hagley in the quarter final, after trailing at the break. The winner came ten minutes from time from the penalty spot.
The visitors were rather sluggish in the first half and although they created a number of half chances rarely looked like troubling the Hagley keeper. The home team's major threat came from set pieces.
Although their long ball game posed little threat to the young Tenbury defenders for the most of the game, it did result in Hagley taking the lead on the half-hour mark, a forward leaving the United defence stranded.
After a half-time pep talk the visitors gradually took a grip on the tie, but had to wait until the 75th minute before forcing an equaliser. They switched wing-backs and it paid handsome dividends. Mike Foster raided down the left wing and finished with a curling cross to present Nicky Stocker with a header.
Tenbury were now in command, and with the fresh legs of substitutes Colin Powell and George Pearson up front snatched a winner ten minutes from time. Powell raced into the area and was brought down by the keeper. Aaron Morris miss-hit his spot kick but it managed to squeeze past the Hagley keeper to leave the winning goal perhaps in keeping with the performance.
This week United entertain Wolverhampton United at Palmer's Meadow in the league.
