Rushall Olympic 1 Ludlow Town 0
FOR the second week running Ludlow competed very well against top-of-the-table opponents, but in the end failed to secure a point in the Midland Alliance League.
The defeat leaves Town rooted to the bottom of the table with the new management team facing an uphill battle to turn their fortunes around. Steve McCor-mick and Kevin Welsby were pleased with the performance, especially as they had adopted a fresh 4-4-2 system which the players quickly adapted to, but appreciate it is only points gained that will lift them up the table.
The home team showed their class in the first half, but a disciplined defensive performance backed up by a fine display from keeper Martin Poole restricted them to few clear-cut chances. They did score the all-important goal midway through the half, veteran Ronnie Walker slotting home.
Town did not let their heads drop and came out in positive mood after the interval. They enjoyed more of the chances with Martin Davies always looking dangerous.
McCormick came off the bench, returning from an ankle injury, and probably had the best chance of the game. Dave Howells played the ball through for the big striker but the Olympic keeper just whipped the ball off his toe.
Welsby, playing on the left wing, also went close with a sweetly struck free-kick. The home team played out time to secure the three points that take them to the top of the table, surprisingly the tenth team to hold this position in just 18 games.
