Craven Arms 6 Little Dawley 5
Trailing 5-1 at one time, Craven Arms netted five times in the final 15 minutes to turn a heavy defeat into a slender victory in this remarkable Ironbridge Sunday League fixture.
The Arms could have taken the lead but missed with an early penalty. Little Dawley's response was to net three times and lead 3-0 at the break.
The home team changed their formation at half time and looked to be on the way back when Chris Morris reduced the arrears. Like the first half penalty, this only spurred the visitors who netted two more goals to seem home and dry at 5-1 on the hour mark.
There were no more goals for the next 15 minutes but then the floodgates opened. Manager, Stuart Jones brought himself off the bench and netted with a header from a free kick to start the ball rolling.
William Brookes made it three and almost immediately Mike Seabourne had the deficit down to a solitary goal when he side-footed home. The visitors were now distinctly edgy and when the ball was bobbling about in their area Morris pounced to bundle it home for his second. The dose was repeated, this time Lee Smith stabbing home the winner during a melee.
Craven Arms were also involved in a high-scoring game on Saturday, but there was no fairy-tale end to the Shropshire Premier Division match at Hanwood. The home team stayed in control to record a 7-3 victory with the Arms goals falling to Dave Humphries, Dave Wilding and Nicky Phillips.
