SKATE boarders are destined to take over the auditorium at Ludlow Assembly Rooms during February half-term.

Chairs will be replaced by a half pipe, quarter pipes, a platform, a flat bank, grind rails and a flat box.

Seasoned skaters will need no further explanation. The auditorium will be a skate park from February 17 to 20, with special slots for particular age groups.

The final session will be open to all ages with a spectacular fully-lit skate show.

Also in store is a series of workshops, including a chance to print skate t-shirts and to design and make projections to be used in the auditorium.

Fans can pick up tips from a showing of Dogtown and Z Boys, telling how a pastime for surfers became an acrobatic skill. The Easter theme is Lost in Space! and from March 29 to April 7 there will be opportunities to build a spaceship, create a costume for an alien and make a pet Martian puppet.

Several other attractions are suitable for adults and children. Among them is Punch-A-Tantra, a musical play inspired by Indian folklore and featuring Mac the over-confident monkey, Kabir the clumsy cow, Monty the elephant and Jaggu the Jaguar.

The Kidzone brochure for January to April is out soon and will carry a new logo which was devised in a competition during the summer.

Ludlow mayor Graeme Kidd picked William Angel's idea and designer Matthew Lloyd from Think Graphic turned into an image.
