Your correspondent Ms Bache (Letters, August 26) wonders why HGVs and their drivers are unpopular. Has she really no idea why?
As a careful car-driver who used to use the A49 a lot, I still have nightmares about the reckless 'professionals' in HGVs.
They ignore their own 40mph limit and try to bully anyone doing less than 50mph into going faster by following a few yards behind.
If the police took enforcement of the 40mph limit seriously, most HGV drivers would be disqualified immediately.
The stores in Craven Arms could easily be supplied by rail. And much of the material transported by road need not be moved at all: bottled water, for example. I urge all car drivers who dislike the motorised bullies in HGVs to drink tap water!
