I write in response to Mrs Coulson's letter (Advertiser, September 2) outlining concerns about the Puppetry of the Penis showing at the Assembly Rooms in October.

The title may be misleading - in fact it is a fully scripted professional comedy act which, while displaying full frontal male nudity, has no sexual content.

It has been touring successfully for more than four years in the UK and for nearly eight years internationally. May I assure you that the show is not pornographic or obscene.

The leaflet advertising the performance has been carefully designed so the word penis looks like pens to a child who is unaware of the word. The picture doesn't show anything more than you would see in a swimming pool or on most TV adverts.

I am sorry that Mrs Coulson feels unable to support the Assembly Rooms with her membership as it is by being a member that you get to have a say about what happens in the building. Several people have joined as a result of us putting on this particular show as they believe that it has broadened our programme to the wider community.

While, personally, I think it is vitally important in the age of HIV that we are educated to be less shy about talking about our bodies, it is not my job to be the dictator or censor of taste for the people of Ludlow and beyond.

In the end, the public will decide for themselves and, so far, we have sold 208 seats which suggests that some people are looking forward to what promises to be an entertaining night out.
