VISITORS to an open day on Saturday can find out about the Meadow of Remembrance at Ludford, Ludlow.
When plans by the Friends of Ludford Cemetery to extend the ancient churchyard fell through earlier this year, a private venture was set up to provide a burial area next to the cemetery.
Despite earlier objections and worries about access and parking, Ludford Park Meadow of Remembrance, set up by Lin and Roger Dalton working with landowner David Griffiths, is now functioning.
A wildflower meadow sown with grasses and wild flowers, it is being mown twice a year, at a time that will encourage the flowers and attract birds, butterflies and other wildlife.
Lin Dalton said: "The idea is to provide a peaceful spot in a natural environment, ensuring a dignified, secure, permanent place of rest, with no maintenance for family or friends."
The meadow is next to the cemetery at St Giles, a burial ground for more than a century. There is a parking area.
The open day is on Saturday, from 10am to 4pm, at the Red Cross Centre, Smithfield, Ludlow.
Transport will be available to Ludford Park if required and refreshments will be available.
"The aim is to let people know what has been achieved after the past year's campaigns and controversy," said Lin Dalton.
