AFTER a spate of burglaries in south Shropshire, police are warning people to make sure their sheds, garages and outbuildings are properly secured.

Ludlow PC Lisa Cox said: "There have been six burglaries in the past few days. Some of the premises targeted had inadequate security; some had none at all.

"For the sake of a few pounds, people should protect their properties by investing in good locks and other security devices.

"Don't make it easy for those intent on breaking in.

"Thieves know that garden sheds usually house expensive items such as mowers, strimmers, hedge-cutters and other power tools."

Over the week, a lawn mower was stolen from a garden shed at Greete; a chainsaw from a shed at Worthen; a chainsaw and protective clothing from an outbuilding at Diddlebury; a lawnmower from a shed at a home in Julian Road, Ludlow; various tools, a lap-top computer and a digital camera from Country Lovers Furniture in Parkway, Ludlow and a lawnmower from a garden shed in Gravel Hill, Ludlow.

PC Cox urged people to contact the police on 08457 444888 if they saw or heard anything suspicious relating to the offences.

She also appealed for people to get in touch if they were offered tools or mowers cheaply in dubious circumstances.
