Wednesbury 4 Tenbury United 1
AFTER taking the lead midway through the first half the United lost their way and finished up well beaten in this West Midlands League division 1 fixture at Wednesbury. This was a disappointing result after a good win in their opening encounter last weekend.
Although not at full strength the visitors started strongly and looked the better outfit in the first quarter. They deservedly took the lead when Andy Hodgetts blasted home from the penalty spot after being brought down by the keeper.
Instead of settling the nerves, the goal seemed to have the opposite effect, and their play became nervous, losing possession in critical positions. Twice the home side took advantage of the situation to hammer home two well-taken goals from the edge of the box. They held onto the lead until the interval.
Wednesbury continued to outmuscle the home side after the break and stretched the lead when a striker latched onto a flick-on to net the third. Tenbury livened up after this setback and created chances with Ryan Morris and George Pearson going close.
They realised that it was not to be their day when what looked a good goal was ruled out for offside, a point that was confirmed soon after when the home side slotted home their fourth goal with a streaky shot following a breakaway. The home team played down the clock to complete a dismal afternoon for United.
